Project Country: | USA |
Project Type: | Innovation Challenge |
Project Lead: | Anthony Zolezzi |
Project Duration: | Ongoing |
CONTEXT:
The average American has only $76 per week to spend on food for an entire family. Organic produce is significantly more expensive than traditionally grown crops, keeping organic produce out of reach for the average family on a restricted budget. Regardless of the health and environmental benefits of organic food, it is a luxury reserved only for consumers in a higher income bracket.
CHALLENGE:
Increase the reach of affordable, organic produce making it attainable for all.
CLIENT:
Wal-Mart Stores Inc
SOLUTION:
By using official algorithms and intelligent supply chain logistics developed by WalMart, this challenge was able to restructure shipping and packaging methodologies to more efficiently and effectively change the organic produce supply chain. As a result of these new processes, the price of organic produce dropped dramatically by 40%, making it more affordable and attainable for all.
