Customem have developed a novel biobased adsorbent material that can selectively capture micropollutants including pesticides, pharmaceuticals and high-performance chemicals like Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS, PFCs) from wastewater. Global freshwater reserves are increasingly polluted due to the accumulation of persistent hazardous chemicals that remain in wastewater after current treatment methods. This leads to increasing water stress, predicted to affect 47% of the world’s population by 2030. CustoMem tackles water stress by removing challenging pollutants by using nature’s capacity to make specialised biomaterials. The company goal is to tackle water stress and promote sustainability in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Fresh water reserves are polluted by chemical wastes.
Create a biochemical agent to absorb chemical pollution.
A unique biochemical process to produce novel adsorbent granules and capture specific pollutants from wastewater efficiently.
What happens with the pollutants one they have been removed?
Industrial water-waste is the primary pollutant of fresh-water sources in the world. A mixture of hazardous chemical waste and fresh-water is dangerous to use. Research shows that polluted water would affect 47% of the population by 2030.
